An exhilarating experience along Kithulgala’s rapids
Originating at the base of Adam’s Peak, the clear waters of the Kelani Ganga – the fourth longest river in Sri Lanka – winds its way through the Hill Country before emptying into the Indian Ocean on the west coast.
The starting point for rafting is just upstream from Kithulgala, a small town bordering the tea country, approximately 1.5 hours’ drive from Camellia Hills.
After a safety briefing and a few pointers on rafting techniques, you will jump right into action. Seven high quality, grade 2 and 3 rapids make the Kelani River a great introduction to the sport of white-water rafting as well as an exciting choice for adrenaline seekers.
The rafting stretch spans approximately 6.5 kilometres in length and takes between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to complete, depending on water levels. Ideal months for rafting are from May to December.
